Gourock artist Margaret Diamond is sparked by events and surroundings to make work which can enliven with movement. Using humour with a playful scattering of absurdity, she can alternatively exude a deeper, reflective conceptual approach.
Her work is ideas based and she uses different media intuitively, using kinetic sculpture, photography, installation, found objects and artist’s books to reflect this.
Her work is accessible, often taking a wry sideways glance to portray an idea, in a similar vein to the iconic works of George Wyllie that sit alongside at The Wyllieum.
Returning after a career break, this is Margaret’s eclectic retrospective.
“Art critics are divided…. Our verdict? Delicious” (News of the World)
Not constrained to any particular medium, Gourock artist Margaret Diamond’s work is ideas based using whatever she considers suitable to reflect this, through kinetic sculpture, photography, installation or artist’s books. Systems and processes fascinate her and are often involved, as concepts and possibilities are explored intuitively.
Soon after graduating with first class honours, Margaret received a sculpture commission from Arts Council England. She has since exhibited her work in various locations around the UK, gaining a Scottish Arts Council Glasgow Arts Grant and was awarded the Sally Schofield Memorial Prize for Visual Arts Scotland at the Royal Scottish Academy, Edinburgh.
After taking a career break, Margaret is exhibiting her retrospective
