Description

On the Doorstep is a new site-specific performance created in collaboration with residents of Broomhill’s tower blocks: Whinhill Court, Prospecthill Court, and Broomhill Court. Rooted in traditions of guising and Galoshans plays, the work unfolds across doorsteps and shared spaces, as neighbours offer stories, songs, and gestures of hospitality to one another.

The performance will be experienced primarily through a film, shot on the night of the performance and screened nearby soon after, offering audiences a window into this collective moment shared by residents.

Inspired by the post-war history of housing regeneration in Inverclyde, this work explores the power of small, generous acts and the rituals that form between neighbours. On the Doorstep invites us to think about who our neighbours are, how we live alongside them, and what we’re willing to give or receive in exchange.

Company Bio

Sally Charlton is a Glasgow-based performance-maker working across live performance, movement and socially engaged practice.

Her work happens in theatres as well as every day, non-traditional spaces and incorporating people who may not consider themselves performers or artists. She is drawn to participation that’s rooted in care, building gently from people’s real-life stories. Sally’s work aims to find a sense of ‘in-it-togetherness’ for its audiences and ensembles, forming communities that unite in their shared experiences and aliveness.
