Come and hear about the history of the quay where ships departed on a daily basis for Liverpool, Bristol, Inverness, Belfast and Dublin and which we’ve heard is haunted by the ghosts of pirates, smugglers and stowaways who were amongst the seafarers who departed this once great port.
Learn about the history of the Grade A listed Customhouse building as well as long gone landmarks such as the Harbour Trust building that sat on the site of the Beacon before being dismantled and put into storage.
Explore the Beacon’s no access areas and learn some behind the scenes secrets, theatrical superstitions and spooky stories.
Beacon Arts Centre – We passionately believe that cultural experiences are crucial to the wellbeing of individuals and communities. Our vision is to be Scotland’s most influential, accessible and entertaining arts venue and our mission is to make a lasting impact and ‘light up lives’ by giving as many people as possible the opportunity to engage with the arts in enjoyable and meaningful ways. We achieve this through our fantastically diverse programme, our youth theatre and our innovative outreach and engagement work, delivered here in the Beacon and out in the community.
Equality, diversity and inclusion lie at the heart of everything we do.
