Travelling Gallery, a contemporary art gallery in a bus, will be parked in Greenock with its latest exhibition User Interface: Coded Craft, a group exhibition featuring contemporary craft artists and makers whose work combines traditional handcraft skills with digital technology including : Jeni Allison, Naomi Mcintosh, Lynne MacLachlan, Liu Qiwei, Aymeric Renoud, Soorin Shin, Sanne Visser, Silvia Weidenbach & Sandra Wilson.
The artists use technology to expand what they can create and explore how craft can help develop more sustainable ways of living and making in the future.
User Interface: Coded Craft includes a wide range of craft practices, from metalwork, modelling, weaving and woodturning to newer technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), 3D printing, digital cutting and laser tools. Together, these methods are used to reduce waste, encourage responsible consumption, and develop renewable materials that support a circular economy, where resources are reused rather than thrown away. The work in the exhibition shows that craft is constantly evolving and remains an important way for people to understand themselves and respond to the world around them.
